Justin Mak
Justin received his BA in history (French Revolution if you must know, but he doesn’t remember much) at Columbia, where he also received his JD after a stint in investment banking in between.
Justin fell backwards into venture when the principal at the family office he works for, the Shanda Group, asked if he was interested in getting more involved in the firm’s fledging venture business about 6 years ago. Since then, Justin has been involved in over 60 LP investments across 40 managers and over 35 direct investments. Justin is responsible for helping source and diligence both fund and direct investments, and with his background as a recovering corporate attorney, has the pleasure of handling the legal aspects of all venture transactions at Shanda. Prior to Shanda Justin was an M&A lawyer at Shearman & Sterling in New York and Hong Kong. Before law school, Justin dabbled in investment banking in what was then called Credit Suisse First Boston in New York and also Goldman Sachs in Hong Kong.
