Anthony Chang is a highly accomplished operator, entrepreneur, and investor with a 25-year track record of lucrative investments and profitable exits. With extensive experience in turnarounds, mergers and acquisitions, and public markets, Anthony has consistently demonstrated his ability to guide executive teams toward new growth trajectories and unlock a company’s full potential.
Anthony currently serves as Vice-Chairman of Galaxy Education, Vietnam’s largest online education platform. He was most recently on the Executive Leadership Team of Niantic, Inc, the creator of the immensely popular mobile game, Pokémon GO. He led Niantic Ventures and previously led Niantic’s growth initiatives in the APAC region.
As both an entrepreneur and operator, Anthony founded and served as the CEO and Board Director of Global Education Learning, Ltd. (“GEL”), a venture-backed company focused on China’s early education sector. He orchestrated the acquisition of Yaolan.com, led its turnaround and grew Yaolan.com into one of the largest parenting sites in China before successfully selling the business. Additionally, he co-founded Magictel.com, an early voice-over-IP service provider in Asia, and led a reverse takeover of a publicly listed company in Hong Kong (HSI: 524).
Equally successful as an investor, Anthony was a Managing Director with TL Ventures, a US$1.6B ventures capital fund. He joined TL as a Kauffman Fellow and established TL’s Silicon Valley office where he collaborated closely with portfolio companies to implement strategic changes and drive transformative outcomes. His hands-on involvement and guidance contributed to a series of successful investments: Ikanos (IPO), Optichron (Director/M&A: NetLogic/Broadcom), Ciclon (M&A: Texas Instruments), VeriWave (Director/M&A: Ixia), and SkyCross (Director & Chair of Compensation Committee). He was also actively engaged with TL’s investment in Traffic.com (IPO/M&A: Nokia) and Atrenta (Director & Chair of Audit Committee/M&A: Synopsis).
Anthony holds a BA with Honors from Stanford University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He currently serves on the Board of the Stanford Club of Hong Kong (where he was previously Chairman).
When Anthony is not in the boardroom, you can find him hiking Dragon’s Back (in Hong Kong), practicing his downward dog (around the world) or perfecting his Grilled Beer Can Chicken.
Anthony served his fellowship as a member of Class 7 at TL Ventures under mentor Mark DeNino.
