George Babu
George holds BA.Sc. (engineering science, electrical), JD, and MBA degrees from the University of Toronto. He has also studied product management at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley and is a Registered Patent Agent in Canada and the holder of two patents. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the Faculty of Engineering Science at the University of Toronto.
George is an avid biker and runner, and although he can't swim, he is training for an Ironman Triathlon; he recently developed an addiction to obstacle races.
George Babu is currently the founder of Aire Labs, a company developing custom AI models, machine-learning workflows and geospatial visualizations to help accelerate the work of teams leading energy transition and carbon removal projects.
He serves on the Engineering Science Advisory Board at the University of Toronto. George is a Kauffman Fellow, and completed his JD, MBA, and B.A.Sc at the University of Toronto.
Prior to Aire Labs, George co-founded: Kindred, an AI-powered Robotics company acquired by Ocado for $330M; Rypple, an enterprise software startup acquired by Salesforce for $65M; and Sweat Equity Ventures, a venture fund based in the Bay Area backed by investors such as Reid Hoffman.
George began his career at BlackBerry, witnessing first hand the iconic firm’s rise from underdog to disruptor, from the BlackBerry in 1998 to the the launch of the iPhone in 2007. He also served as a Director in the venture capital fund of the OMERs pension fund, working on investments in Shopify, Wattpad and others.
As a member of Class 18, George served his fellowship at the OMERS Ventures under the mentorship of CEO, John Ruffolo.
