Jonathan Root
Jon holds an AB in economics/government from Dartmouth College, an MD from the University of Florida College of Medicine, and an MBA from Columbia University.
As a physician, Jon Root evaluates medical investments with a practitioner's eye, evaluating business opportunities by asking whether the solution addresses an unmet clinical need, and whether the innovation is easily usable. For his investment companies, Jon brings his hands-on, pragmatic advice to the table. Jon spent nine years in clinical practice before joining USVP in 1995 as a Kauffman Fellow. He was on the faculty and clinical staff at The New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center in New York City where he was an Assistant Professor of Neurology and Director of the Neurology-Neurosurgery Intensive Care Unit. He is board certified in neurology. Jon maintains relationships with leading medical schools on both coasts and enjoys helping entrepreneurs make meaningful connections with leading specialists to gain input on product design issues.
Jon is a Charter Class member and served his fellowship under mentor Phil Young at US Venture Partners in Menlo Park, CA.
