He was born in the Bronx, New York, raised in Queens, and has roots in Ponce, Puerto Rico.

Professional

Jorge M. Torres serves as the Dean of Pierson College, which is one of 14 undergraduate residential learning communities at Yale University. In that role, he is responsible for fostering the academic and personal wellbeing of 450+ students.

Prior to working in higher education, Jorge served as an original member of the investment team at Silas Capital that partnered with the founders of consumer brands such as Casper (NYSE:CSPR), Boll & Branch, Ringly, Tracksmith and others. Through his affiliation with Kauffman Fellows, he is also a limited partner in Truebridge Capital Partners, a venture capital fund-of-funds.

Jorge serves as a Chairman of the Board of Directors of HBCUvc, a non-profit whose mission is to increase the racial and ethnic diversity in venture capital. He joined the board after serving as the organization's first executive hire and after designing and implementing a venture capital training program whose impact has been felt by hundreds of students attending historically Black colleges and universities and Hispanic serving institutions in the US.

Jorge's teaching and coaching focus on new venture creation, entrepreneurship, and venture capital. He has taught courses that introduce undergraduates to investing fundamentals as well as continuing education programs that help seasoned investors raise their practice to the next level.

Jorge mentors entrepreneurs through his affiliations with the Tsai Center for Innovative Thinking at Yale, Techstars, Founder Institute, and Endeavor. His mentoring relationships focus on helping founders and their teams develop new products, raise capital, and enter the market.

Jorge was engaged in the full-time practice of intellectual property law for a decade prior to venture capital. He is a registered patent attorney.

Fellowship

As a member of Class 16, Jorge served his fellowship at Silas Capital. He also served as a mentor to Jules Miller (Class 22).
