Michal Klar

Michal studied economics at University of Warsaw, dropping out to join a startup. He lived for over 5 years in Indonesia, including a sabbatical in Bali, where his daughter enrolled in Green School, a unique international school with a curriculum focused on environmental sustainability. Michal now divides his time between New Zealand, where he lives with his family, and the broader APAC region, which is his investment focus.

Michal Klar is a Founding Partner of Better Bite Ventures, an early-stage fund focused on climate-friendly food tech and alternative protein startups in Asia Pacific region. The fund launched in late 2021 and has invested in 20 startups so far from South East Asia, China, India and Australia/NZ. Prior to launching Better Bite, Michal has been involved in various tech startups in emerging markets, as an operator and investor. He was responsible South East Asian e-commerce portfolio at Naspers. With Naspers and Tencent, he helped launch Kaidee, today Thailand’s leading C2C marketplace. As CEO of OLX Indonesia, he scaled up the online classifieds platform to millions of users. Michal joined his first startup when he was 19. As one of the first employees of the e-commerce platform Allegro, he helped to grow it to become the first unicorn in Poland. The company was acquired by Naspers, and later went public as 2nd largest European IPO of 2020 with a $20 billion market cap. At Allegro, he held a variety of senior roles, overseeing product, monetization and customer experience. Later, as head of the international division, he was responsible for platforms across Central & Eastern Europe, from Czech Republic to Ukraine.
