Shane concentrated in Finance and Mandarin at The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating Summa Cum Laude, Joseph Wharton Scholar and Benjamin Franklin Scholar Honors. 

Shane was born and grew up in South Korea; he studied and worked in the US, Canada, and China prior to settling down in UAE. Having played the piano and clarinet for over 15 years, he has a strong passion for musical performance; he also enjoys community service and is an active volunteer.

Professional

Shane is the Co-Founding Partner at Shorooq Partners, the leading Seed Stage VC firm in the Middle East, North Africa, and Pakistan (MENAP). As a Forbes 30 Under 30 and a Kauffman Fellows, Shane is dedicated to catalyzing entrepreneurship within the MENAP region and beyond.

His finance career took root in the US, where he built his career as an investment professional, entrepreneur, and investment banker. Shane has held roles at UBS, TD Securities, Lazard Freres & Co., Alpine Investors and GlobalFoundries, a subsidiary of the Mubadala Investment Company, a $250bn Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund.

An alumnus of The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, Shane concentrated in Finance and Mandarin, graduating with top honors, namely Summa Cum Laude, Joseph Wharton Scholar, and

Benjamin Franklin Scholar.

Having been born in South Korea and with professional experiences spanning the US, Canada, and China, Shane's mission is to build a robust connection between the entrepreneurial landscapes of MENAP and Asia, drawing on the unique innovations of both regions. Beyond his professional pursuits, Shane's commitment to music and community service is evident in his 15+ years playing the piano and clarinet, as well as his participation in numerous concerts.
