Education

Shintaro holds a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Professional

Shintaro is currently Director, Office of Technology Commercialization & New Ventures at Stevens Institute of Technology and works with faculty, staff and students to translate the results of scientific research into societal and commercial impact. Prior to leading innovation and entrepreneurship efforts at US institutions of higher education, Shintaro launched Oklahoma's first startup accelerators for i2E. Shintaro led 14 investments for i2E which returned 1.57x @ 17.2% IRR. Shintaro also has operator experience as co-founder: Codesy (Techstars '18) and Synercon Technologies (acquired '19 by Dearborn Technologies).

In 2022, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf appointed Shintaro to the board of the Ben Franklin Technology Development Authority (BFTDA). BFTDA, on behalf of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, invests in regional venture capital funds as an LP to stimulate technology-based economic development in the Commonwealth. Shintaro served on its investment committee from 2022 to 2024.

Shintaro also serves on the Leadership Council for Activate (www.activate.org), which empowers scientists to become scientist entrepreneurs through fully supported two year fellowships. Activate Fellows and their ~200 startups have raised over $3.5 billion since 2015. Shintaro delivers the fellowship-wide seminar "Working With Your Tech Transfer Office - What Every Scientist Entrepreneur Should Know". 

Shintaro is a Certified Licensing Professional (CLP) and a Registered Tech Transfer Professional (RTTP). Shintaro resides in Wallingford, PA with his wife Janet, daughter Emma, two cats and six bicycles.
