Stephen Zachary
Stephen holds a BA in philosophy from Washington & Lee University and a PhD in neuroscience from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where he studied mechanisms of synaptic plasticity and synaptic organization. During his doctoral training, Stephen spent two summers teaching at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA.
Stephen is a Senior Associate at Sands Capital Ventures, a venture firm based in the Washington, DC area. In this role, Stephen leads due diligence on new life sciences investment opportunities and supports portfolio companies. Stephen is primarily interested in early-stage therapeutic, diagnostic, and life sciences tools companies. He serves on the board of Day Zero Diagnostics and is a board observer at Agilis Biotherapeutics, Tolerion, SeLux Diagnostics, and Mitra Biotech. In addition, Stephen assists portfolio companies with research design, data analysis, and business development.
As a member of Class 23, Stephen is serving his fellowship at Sands Capital under the mentorship of Luba Greenwood, Strategic Business Development at Google, Verily.
